NOT WORK

Art direction can happen anywhere.
Here are a few things I made when I wasn’t making ads.

MASSIVE PAPER FLOWERS

Made for a wedding using rigid paper (petals) and PVC tubing (stems, shaped with hot sand), each flower is about 1.5 feet across.

Two blooms ended up back at the loverly home of the married couple. Nice, huh?

NUMBERS ART

Here are some posters from a series I did for art show that I un-creatively call ‘NUMBERS ART.’ After I completed numbers one through nine, people asked for zero. Ain’t no zero. But if you like numbers 1-9, they’re still for sale. 24.5” X 28.5” Printed in Toronto on archival paper.

Some detail shots:

PUPPETS

When I had kids, we started making puppets together every Christmas. Some have a sparkly, removable brain inside the head. Some have marbles and fake spiders in the mouth. Some have pull strings to make the ears move. Every one is different.

REARRANGED BEACH ROCKS

No pencils, no pens. Just rocks and a camera on a beach in New Brunswick. The colours are unadjusted if you can believe it.

And some plain-coloured rocks which sum up how I feel about the Bruce Peninsula.

INSTAGRAM WALL

Camp Widjiitiwin welcomes marginalized youth to the great, northern Ontario outdoors. For their October 2023 fundraising event, I made this Instagram wall with free cardboard, some dollar store paint and an old exacto knife. (Teeny budget, so these models worked for marshmallows.)

SEARCH + FIND PUZZLES

During the pandemic, I made and posted these for anyone who also had bored kids at home.
They wound up getting used in some online classrooms. Go on, find the Heineken.

COLLAGE

When Toronto’s Westside Studios did a little story on me, Vikki Lam snapped my pic (while I was pregnant).
I turned Vikki’s shot into a 3D woodland collage using a good old photocopier, my trusty Exacto knife and some glue.

Papier Flora

In 2022, I made hundreds of flowers for a Youth Unlimited charity event. My house was a fragrance-free greenhouse during production. After the event, I was asked if I would consider doing wedding arrangements. I said maybe.
